Understanding an Otaku

Description

Luckily most of my friends understand each other quite fine... :floating:

* This is super old but I still used it as something fun my ID for a long time. Please don't take it too seriously, it's just meant to be cute and semi-informative. If interested, do your research. I don't recommend speaking random Japanese to those who have no idea what you're saying and I don't need long debates on otaku or weeaboos (I think that became a word?). I am an adult and I love my hobbies, I love Japan, and I like to share my art and the things that interest me.

Though in the early days when I did this, it was after picking up random Japanese phrases and a love of Japanese culture and language... a fairly natural result from years of Japanese subtitled anime and dramas, I have since been part of study groups and delved into books on Japanese, grammar, and usage. It is still my longing to visit Japan but if I go or not I still love the language. You don't need to shove Japanese in peoples faces, but for anyone who is a fan of watching anime (or have otaku friends) it can only help to be familiar with common phrases. So here's a simple starting guide...

Introductions:
Watashi wa ____ - desu (I am __name__ )
Hajimemashite - Hello (for the first time) / Nice to meet you
or Yoroshiku ne / Yoroshiku Onegaishimasu (often after introducing-please accept/treat kindly)
O namae wa nan desu ka? (What is your name?)
Namae wa ___ desu (My name is ____ ) Anata wa? (And yours?)

Honorifics (after names):
-San ~ Polite (Mr., Mrs., Ms. etc)
-Chan ~ Casual familiar enderament for friends, family, often feminine or for younger children
-Kun ~ Often masculine, addressing someone of junior status
-Senpai ~ Someone senior to you
-Kohai ~ Someone junior to you
-Sama ~ Significantly more respectiful than -San. expresses admiration
-Sensei ~ Teacher or something with mastery of an art form or skill or of high position

Okaeri(nasai) - Response to "Tadaima"
