Artist's Comments

Again, another project/portfolio piece for Commercial Art. This still life actually came before the Portrait of Sho. Honestly, I didn't know I was capable of this with graphite pencils so I was really happy. Our teacher was an illustration artist and his biggest forte was b&w pencils so his help and tips I'm sure made a difference.

We had about two weeks from finding a photo reference to the finishing touches. (Yes, reference used.) The ornate handle on the left took about 70% of that time, 30% for the knitting on the katana(?) handle, and 10% for the rest. Again I got first place for the class judging by other faculty. XD Right now we're doing our paintings.

It's pretty clear now that what looked like it might have been some kind of counterculture is, in reality, just the plain old chaos of undifferentiated weirdness.

Thanks a lot! lol I think the boy might have freaked out quite a few people from my class. The judges probably just thought it was a girl. :D
