J-rock boy

Well, some good things about commercial art class, it pushes me to do things I might not normally do, gets me to spend a ton more hours than I'd normally spend on one art, and I still manage to relate our projects to japanese! =3

We had to do a portrait, and of course my mind went right to the japanese. I searched through my photobook of Hyde and Gackt but didn't quite find what I wanted to do (a friend from class did Hyde). I searched online and found this gorgeous pretty boy with a nice little attitude thing going on. So I picked that picture. I found out the J-rockers name is Hiroto and he's from the group, Alice Nine. So yes, photo reference was used.

This was done completely in graphite pencils in about two weeks worth of class plus taking it home a couple of times so I could get it in on time. Maybe it's odd, but I'm the most proud of his mouth, I was sure I'd make it look weird somehow XD That and I love how his hair came out. I think I just got docked a point or two for the text on his shirt being messy (my teacher suggested just not doing the text, but I thought it gave his outfit character), and there could've been more depth to his face. Oh it did win first place for the class judging ^___^ It was fun teaching my classmates about the excitence of "pretty boys"
